ABOUT

Carolyn Gray is a graphic designer in Sacramento, CA. Her passion for visual communications originates in her background in local, state, county, and federal education policy. She worked in education policy advocacy for four years, specializing in student mental health, early education, school funding adequacy, and educational equity. In this role, she used her creative skills to create highly effective infographics, fact sheets, and reports to advance interest in public education objectives. Currently, Carolyn is a senior design consultant with over seven years of experience in delivering polished, creative products in illustration, publications, graphic design, and web design.

Carolyn's interest in design originated at a young age. Her artwork was first published on the cover of Creative Kids magazine at age 11. Since then, she has illustrated for newspapers and student journals, produced publications, and developed digital and printed materials used in support of numerous advocacy efforts. She is experienced in Adobe Creative Suite (including InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop), Google Drive, HTML/CSS, Microsoft Office 365, and Wordpress.

Carolyn graduated from the University of California, Berkeley with a B.A. in political science and minors in education and public policy. She was the 2017 recipient of the Travers Undergraduate Scholarship in Ethics and Politics, and was selected as a member of both the the Cal-in-the-Capital fellowship and the Cal-in-Sacramento fellowship. Her dedication to public service and design motivated her to join Creative Residencies for Emerging Artists Teaching Empowerment (C.R.E.A.T.E.) in the UC Berkeley Public Service Center, and volunteer in a Public Service Internship with the Oakland Unified School District School Board. She also served as a representative on the Education Minor Committee and as Design Director and staff writer for the Berkeley Political Review. After losing a bet, Carolyn joined the Cal Archery team, but has since grown to love the sport.

Public service continues to be an integral part of Carolyn's life. Prior to moving to Sacramento, Carolyn taught middle school and elementary school public speaking workshops for five years in San Jose, CA. She designed curriculum, trained student teacher volunteers, increased engagement, and taught over five hundred students. Her teaching experience remains the foundation for her dedication to enriching educational opportunity for all students.

In her spare time, Carolyn enjoys painting, cooking, hiking, acroyoga, roller skating, working on her house, and adventuring. She misses her cat, Larry, dearly, and satisfies her feline fix by catsitting.
